The decision to enroll in an on-level or honors language is both personal and important. Students and their parents/guardians should carefully consider the teacher's recommendation as well as the student's interest level in the language, motivation, learning style, and demands outside of school. Decisions should not be based on staff as teaching assignments may change from year to year. Students are reminded that enrollment in the selected class is a year long commitment, and no schedule changes will be allowed after the final course verification in May of the prior year. |
HonorsThe Honors Program is designed for those students whose skills, past achievement, and demonstrated interest in learning indicate that they will benefit from further challenge and enrichment.
Students in Honors programs are advanced through higher expectations in open-ended learning activities that have accelerated pacing and less repetition. Students are expected to demonstrate a higher level of proficiency in vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, level of discourse, grammatical accuracy and written expression. On-LevelOn-level World Language courses place more emphasis on the basics - more practice with vocabulary and grammar. Classroom instruction includes more repetition and review of concepts over longer periods. Assessments are less rigorous than in honors classes.
